Deformable Mirrors
Xinetics has preserved and improved critical deformable mirror technology over the past ten years. The lead magnesium niobate (PMN) electroceramic actuators used in the mirrors have characteristics ideal for adaptive optics applications. The commercial deformable mirror product has not only helped astronomers see the very beginnings of time, but has also helped ophthalmologists see the very beginnings of eye disease. Our PMN actuated deformable mirror product operates routinely in high-speed adaptive optics systems to 1x1011 cycles without failure. The critical element in making highly reliable deformable mirrors is the availability of precision actuators. By using the cofiring process, an actuator stack has very nearly the same modulus as the bulk ceramic material. This means that these high stiffness actuators greatly simplify the assembly, testing and polishing process, producing a high-quality optical device. In the past ten years, Xinetics has built and delivered over 100 mirrors totaling over 12,000 actuators.Standard Deformable Mirrors:
Xinetics’ engineering expertise gives the end user a wide range of design options. A standard deformable mirror may be purchased giving excellent performance at a reduced cost. Standard options range from 37 to 941 actuators at 7 and 5mm spacings and provide 3 to 8 microns of stroke.

The 7mm discrete mirrors come in seven standard sizes:
37, 97, 177, 241, 349, 577 and 941.

The 5mm discrete mirrors come in two standard sizes:
37 and 97, with 349 and 577 currently in development.
Custom Deformable Mirrors:
For mission critical systems Xinetics is capable of designing custom deformable mirrors that exactly meet the system need. These include higher force, custom temperature ranges, and custom actuator spacings.
