The Contract Optical Design & Manufacturing group within the Systems and Services business area of Adaptive Optics Associates develops and manufactures optical systems for several application areas including aerospace, communications, defense, astronomy, industrial scanning systems, and metrology. The full services provided by the Contract Optical Design & Manufacturing group include concept development, design, prototype fabrication, test and evaluation, and small-, medium-, or large-volume manufacturing.

Engineering and Manufacturing Facilities
AOA’s Contract Optical Design & Manufacturing group’s facilities are in Cambridge, Massachusetts and East Hartford, Connecticut. Its flagship facility is a custom constructed, 76,000 square foot facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It houses AOA’s Contract Optical Design and Manufacturing group’s engineering development team and includes 10,000 square feet of Class 10,000 clean room space plus an additional 10,000 square feet of industrial production space. In addition to this space there are clean tent systems with laminar flow through HEPA filters. These tents provide 3,500 square feet of Class 1000 workspace. Within the tents, are laminar flow benches which provide Class 100 workspace.
