Laser Technology

Northrop Grumman develops the full range of technologies needed for operational laser systems. From high-energy chemical lasers to solid state lasers, over thirty years of investment and development have extended the capabilities of lasers for wide range of defense and commercial applications.

Beam Control

Beam Control Adaptive optics (AO) is a critical part of the beam control system for a tactical laser weapon. For the past several years, NGST has been developing AO systems specifically for tactical laser weapons using an experimental testbed.

Chemical

Chemical Laser Northrop Grumman has developed chemical lasers that have high power levels greater than solid-state lasers and have demonstrated capabilities of military significance.  Chemical laser defensive systems are ideal for large area defense.

Fiber Laser

Fiber Laser Fiber lasers offer several advantages, including high surface-to-volume ratio for effective heat removal, compact size and high efficiency. These advantages will allow them to be packaged onto such platforms as aircraft pods and fighters for missions such as aircraft self-protection and long-range strike.

Solid State Laser

Solid State Laser Northrop Grumman solid-state lasers use solid lasing material and are powered electrically. Solid-state laser technology is advancing rapidly - ideal for air, ground, and naval platform mounting for shorter range tactical missions.

Technology

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is the birthplace of many exciting, leading-edge laser and beam control technologies that hold tremendous promise for our nation's defense.
